Shaun Scott from Oyne, Aberdeenshire, has been named the winner of the UK Plumber of the Year 2016, sponsored by JT, Bristan and Plumb Center.
Following hundreds of entries from all over the UK, Shaun travelled to Tamworth to attend a final interview session with four other finalists, where the challenge was to impress an industry judging panel. Shaun, who has been a plumbing engineer for nine years, impressed the judging panel in the final session of the competition with his determination, skill-set and his vision for the future.
Shaun, who works for Derek Scott Plumbing Limited in Insch, impressed the judges in a variety of ways, particularly demonstrating a recent bathroom restoration project where he was able to refurbish a challenging 90-year old bathroom for a client who was told it wasn’t worth the effort. His dedication to complete a challenge paid dividends, and he managed to complete the project to the delight of a very happy client.
As well as the honour of becoming the second-ever UK Plumber of the Year, Shaun takes home £10,000 worth of prizes, including JT and Bristan products, vouchers to spend at his nearest Plumb Center and products from Arctic, Big Wipes, CAT, CK Tools, Epson, Milwaukee, Monument, PayPal, Regin, Rothenberger and Toolbank.
Now in its second year, the competition called on plumbers nationwide to enter in a bid to be crowned Britain’s finest. The competition is designed to reward and recognise the remarkable talents within the UK’s plumbing industry and ask entrants to demonstrate their plumbing, service and business skills.
Shaun took on four other plumbers in the final stage. Mark Wakeley from Devon, Richard Lane from Bolton, Richard Weir from North Shields and finally Sarah Osbourne from Cambridge, who walked away with a highly commended award.
Commenting on his win, Shaun says: “It’s an absolute honour to be named the UK Plumber of the Year in 2016. I really can’t believe it! I really enjoyed the whole process, from completing the initial application form, gathering votes from my community and the final interview stage, which was nerve wracking but a fantastic experience. I’d also like to say a big thank you to the sponsors and the prize partners for their generous support.”
John Schofield, Sales and Marketing Director at JT, adds: “We thought the level of entries in 2015 was incredibly high, but we’ve been blown away by the standards this year. Our final interview stage was incredible and Shaun is a worthy winner. He demonstrated his work which showed some real skill and intuition, plus gave us an insight into where the future of plumbing is going. Massive congratulations to Shaun and the four final candidates and thanks to everyone who entered. We’ll be back next year.”
