THUMBS UP FROM INSTALLERS

Friday Jun 1

An innovative plastic piping system from Uponor has proved to be very popular with installers working on a major housing scheme in Belfast.

Uponor provided a complete plumbing and heating manifold system for the Glen Road project, utilising a combination of MLCP and PEX piping systems.

We've been hugely impressed with how easy the Uponor range is to use and, as a result, how much faster installation is, explains John McGorry, Operations Director for T&A Mechanical. “We decided to use their system solutions at Glen Road and have it almost as a trial site but after such positive results, we are now utilising the range across a number of other projects.

The Glen Road project, which will be officially known as Caffrey Hill, incorporates 120 new homes and 46 new apartments as well as office and retail accommodation, all built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Because many of the installers at T&A Mechanical hadnt used the system before, Uponor arranged for training onsite, with regular call-backs to ensure that everything was running smoothly.

It shows just how straightforward and simple the system is to use when a structured training session provided our installers with all the knowledge they needed, adds John.

Overall, the feedback from our installers has been superb. They enjoy how quickly they can complete an installation yet still have the same integrity while even simple issues like carrying pipe up to the apartments is easier because the Uponor range is so much lighter.

Everyone is looking at ways to be more cost- effective, both in terms of how much a product actually costs as well as installation time, and Uponor ticks all those boxes. Even from a security point of view, we dont have to worry about pipework being stolen from sites because, unlike copper, the range doesnt have any real secondhand value.
