Following an intense two-day final, Daisy Turner from Barking and Dagenham College has been crowned as the HIP Learner of the Year 2024. Staged at the JTL Birmingham Training Centre, the event was the culmination of six regional heats which saw Level 2 and 3 plumbing students from England and Wales compete for a place in the final. The final provided another opportunity for the students to showcase their installation and pipework skills, before the competition judges were given the difficult task of deciding who came out on top.
Upon hearing her name announced, Daisy shared her excitement: “I still can’t believe it! The prizes and the overall experience have truly been overwhelming. I’d encourage anyone considering participating next year to absolutely go for it!”
There was not much to split any of the highly impressive work on display from all of the finalists, but Zak Rowan from Grimsby Institute was awarded the runner-up spot.
This year’s event was supported by some of the biggest brands in the industry, including Viessmann, Wolseley Plumb Centre, Milwaukee, Aalberts IPS, Kingspan, Polypipe Underfloor Heating, Stelrad, Triton, WaterSafe, Wilo, Snickers Workwear, Talon, The Worshipful Company of Plumbers, Yorkshire Copper Tube, FIX Radio, and the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).
Zoe Tanner, MD at HIP, commented: “The final was nothing short of spectacular! Each competitor has demonstrated remarkable skill and should be proud of their achievements. We’re excited to see what next year brings as the talent this year has indeed set a promising precedent for the future of plumbing.”
She added that many former competitors have continued to achieve remarkable success, highlighting the competition’s role as a valuable launchpad for aspiring professionals.
