The pumps manufacturer Wilo UK has announced the launch of the company’s next charity challenge – a five-day Triathlon in aid of Maggie’s cancer support centres and the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
From 6th – 10th June, staff from Wilo UK’s Burton-Upon-Trent HQ will be swimming, running and cycling to complete the Triathlon. The team will embark on 1,872 miles across the three activities in honour of the company’s 150-year anniversary, celebrating the year the business was founded in Dortmund, Germany in 1872. Static exercise bikes and treadmills will be used, while some team members aim to be out and about on road bikes and running, as well as using the local swimming pool to complete the third activity.
As the conflict in Ukraine continues to threaten the lives of millions of civilians, Wilo will be raising emergency funds for families currently fleeing the country. The charity helps to provide food, water, shelter, healthcare and protect refugees and displaced people, with over 12 million people having fled their homes since the conflict began. A £30 donation can provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month and so the money raised will be paramount to providing critical aid for those fleeing the conflict.
Maggie’s is a charity providing free cancer support and information in centres across the UK and online. The charity’s centres help people to take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries. It costs around £2,400 to run a Maggie’s centre for a day.
Lee Tebbatt, MD of Wilo UK, comments: “Here at Wilo, we are ready to take on our next challenge and this Triathlon will be yet another fun team activity for all of our colleagues, whilst raising vital funds.
“We have all bared witness to the devasting conflict that’s ongoing in Ukraine and so it is important for us to support a charity like the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal this year to ensure civilians are receiving all necessary aid. We are also proud to be supporting Maggie’s once more to ensure the incredible hard work of this amazing UK charity continues for those living with cancer and their families.”
All funds raised will go direct to Maggie’s and the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. If you can, please donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/wilouk-triathlon
