OVO Energy has partnered with Heat Geek to offer affordable heat pump installations along with a free add-on service, Heat Pump Plus, that the energy supplier says will “unlock half price electricity”.
Heat Geek is a nationwide heating specialist founded by Adam Chapman, who won ‘Influencer of the Year’ in 2022 at the Energy Saving Awards, and this initiative is the company’s latest effort to promote the use of renewable technologies.
Installations will be initially be available to a limited number of OVO customers. Heat Geek will handle the Boiler Upgrade Scheme application on the customer’s behalf, which could drive the cost of the project down to around £500.
With Heat Pump Plus, customers will receive separate billing for their heat pump usage and overall household energy consumption. This provides a reduced electricity rate of 15p/kWh specifically for powering the heat pump, which could save a household an average of £500 per year on running costs. This offer is free and available to customers on any OVO plan, but only to those who purchase a heat pump through this new offer.
Mat Moakes, chief commercial officer at OVO, says: “The UK is trailing far behind Europe on its heat pump installations. By halving the running costs of a heat pump, we’re helping to level the playing field between gas boilers and heat pumps, making them a more viable option for those wanting to make the green switch to electric. But this has to be the case across the board. It’s time to shift policy costs from electricity to general taxation so everyone can benefit from greener, cheaper electric heating systems, sooner.”
