Plumbers earning more than £44,000 a year

Self-employed plumbing contractors earned an average of £920 per week during June, according to Hudson Contract’s latest analysis of pay trends in the construction industry – the equivalent to an annual salary of more than £44,000.

Earnings declined by 4.9% between May and June, which was attributed to installers taking time off to spend with their families during the half-term holiday.

Ian Anfield, MD of Hudson Contract, comments: “Plumbers are clearly benefiting from learning a valuable trade that remains in strong demand. The sector is still incredibly busy with housebuilding, renovation and infrastructure work and we don’t see any signs of activity slowing down.”

The £1.6bn-turnover group delivers the most accurate indication of subcontractor pay trends across the construction industry, publishing the average pay for a spectrum of 17 different trades split across 10 regions in England and Wales. It supplies statistics to the Bank of England to keep policymakers updated with real-time insights on demand for skilled labour.
